Stumbling Into FurCon

Furries talking to folks outside FurCon

Walking casually in downtown San Jose last night, we noticed something strange. First, lots more people than normal. And second, some of them were wearing costumes, hats with ears or fluffy tails.

It turns out we had stumbled into FurCon – aka Further Confusion — an annual gathering of the “furry fandom” in a “furry convention.” I had never heard of the “anthropomorphic arts and education” foundation, the organizer of the event, but the gathering seemed to be a happy one, composed of artists, costumers, geeks and “enthusiasts” who embraced the aesthetics of “furry” views of human nature.

This ESPN show from a decade ago really captures the story (in 5 short segments on YouTube). Interviews with all the players — owner, trainer, jockey, others — and…
