    “Hobby Shops” on base

    ByWayne Willis December 30, 2024December 30, 2024

This hand-crafted purse reminded me of a leatherworking course my Mom, sister and I took when living in Elizabeth City, NC. I’m pretty sure we did it under the auspices of the US Navy, in the on-base “hobby shop” they provided to officers “and their dependents.”

    Welcome, Sofia Mae Willis!

    ByWayne Willis December 27, 2023December 27, 2023

Sofia Mae Willis was born on December 3, 2023, my fifth grandchild … another beautiful, healthy, smart girl. She comes from a long line of independent-minded, beautiful, and intelligent women, including her Mom and the women on her father’s side. Here are some ancestors who share her middle name, from her father’s side of the family. As soon as I can, I’ll add more slides to document her mother’s side!

    Albert H. Willis (1911-1993)

    ByWayne Willis May 26, 2014September 22, 2023

This was adapted from a letter I wrote for Wolfe Glick, my niece Heather’s son and a video presentation I created for some Yale friends from Scroll and Key (aka “CSP”). Let’s start with the video. BTW, that ended with me choking up and admitting how much I loved the man. Now, here is the…

    ByWayne Willis December 4, 2011March 10, 2018

When I was leading Voice-tel (1991-1995), we opened a number of operations in Australia and New Zealand as part of an international expansion effort.  I flew to Sydney in early February of 1995 to meet with the management there for the first time.  A week later, Debi, Pat and Tyler flew in during winter vacation…

Uncle Jack, Aunt Mary, The Cunner Club and All

    ByWayne Willis August 28, 2011March 10, 2018

Steph’s folks grew up in Maine and the culture of that state permeated their family life, even though Steph and her siblings spent their entire lives in Hamden, CT, where Steph’s father, Paul Kittredge, was a professor at Quinnipiac College.   Steph’s mother, Maude Helson Kittredge, also grew up in Portland.  So there were lots…

    Wolfe At World’s, Part 2

    ByWayne Willis August 14, 2011March 10, 2018

When we adjourned after Saturday’s round-robin tournament, Wolfe had qualified for the Elite Eight to be held today, Sunday. Exhausted, he and his family retired to their hotel room, ordered some room service and did the absolute best thing they could do: To get a great night’s sleep. The tournament today was a single elimination…
